In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Becky Senecal. Becky is the owner and head dreamer of The Pink Porcupine, a clothing boutique based in Brooks, Alberta. In this episode we discuss teaching and being a teacher, balance and prioritization, sports, business and being a Mom.
I’m Becky, the owner and head dreamer of The Pink Porcupine. If you've known me for 10 years or 10 minutes you will know that I have a big and eccentric personality. My personal style does not fit in a box and I don’t need a fashion blogger to justify my wardrobe choices (Is there even a thing as too much??). When it comes to fashion, if I love it and I feel good in it, I wear it! It’s as simple as that and I would suggest the same for you. If you are even a little like me, you love fun clothing that not everyone has because you believe in being your true authentic self!
Let me preface the next section with I don't like to be bored. This is probably why growing up in Northern Saskatchewan I played every sport there was and eventually landed a division 1 scholarship playing volleyball in Colorado. When living in Colorado I was introduced to and fell in love with the boutique world. I loved how as you walked through the door you knew that this was “Your Kind of Place to Shop”. After moving back to Canada, I still shopped these fun and unique boutiques, but from the comforts of my home. I then quickly found out about the unexpected duties and taxes that would accompany the exciting parcels. I knew I couldn’t be the only one in this situation. This is where the idea of The Pink Porcupine was born.
Now, as a mom of three under five, a junior high phys ed teacher and an owner of a boutique for 5 years, I know how busy life can get! I know that spending hours putting together outfits is not something that we have time for. This is why we carry easy to wear items that can be easily thrown together on days when having time for ourselves is unheard of. I also know that there are going to be times where we need some super fun and less functional items for date nights or girls nights out! When those days come around, you know we are going to get out of our work out wear and make a statement!
Nothing boosts your confidence like a compliment on your killer outfit and nothing boosts mine like when I hear about it. In fact, I may reply in all CAPITALS, with too many exclamation points, and dance party right on the spot. If you feel good, I feel good!
