Jillian Redrow Episode
In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Jillian Redrow. Jillian is a coach and healing facilitator based in Forth Worth Texas. In this episode we discuss eating disorders, alcoholism, body kindness, gratitude, giving back and self-love, healing and recovery and the importance of mentorship/coaching.
My name is Jillian Redrow, and I am a Fort Worth, Texas native. I'm 30 years old, and my journey to where I am now has been anything but linear! I struggled with bulimia for 12 years, and drank alcoholically for 6 of them. These addictions took me to some deeply dark places which included rehabs and jail. I was so lost. I was so lonely.
But, what I have since learned is that the eating disorder was never about the food or my appearance. The drinking wasn't just an accidental crutch for my depression. They were both extremely dedicated mechanisms for disconnecting from my heart and body. They were numbing mechanisms, because at the time, I couldn't bear to actually feel my feelings or face my traumas.
At the age of 27, I finally began to heal through practicing and implementing mindfulness into my everyday life. I started with meditation and yoga. These tools got me back into my body and helped me reconnect to my heart space. When I had gone 6 months without making myself sick, I couldn't believe it! I had been succumbing to my eating disorder every day for 12 years, and only by truly reconnecting to my body, and choosing to feel into my emotions in order to heal them, was I able to take back control of my life and my body.
I soon realized I was meant to turn my mess into my message and help other women who were out there suffering with disordered eating, binge drinking, and worthiness wounds to take their power back and reconnect to their bodies and hearts to heal, grow, and transcend their own traumas. In 2019 I was called to enroll in and complete a 10-month 400-hour life coaching certification, and now I have the honor of helping guide women who are on their own healing journeys.
