Dora is a is a dedicated and talented lawyer and advocate; a vivacious and award-winning radio personality; a mentor/coach; a community leader and a social influencer. In this episode we discuss being a lawyer, passion, time management, mentoring women, helping others and trusting the universe.
Dora is a vibrant, dynamic and multifaceted individual. She is a dedicated and talented lawyer
and advocate; a vivacious and award-winning radio personality; a mentor/coach; a community
leader; and a social influencer. Barely 27 years old, Dora has managed to build a personal
brand and social platform, which she uses to promote and raise awareness about various
philanthropic causes and initiatives within her own community and internationally. Raised in
Greece, Dora moved to Toronto, Canada when she was a young teenager. She made her mark
in Toronto, but never forgot where she came from. Dora wears a number of hats and is involved
with a number of organizations; notably ones that promote Hellenic culture and philanthropic
causes. Dora never loses focus; commits to all projects and initiatives with the same
determination and meraki. As you will note from the summary below, Dora’s professional and
philanthropic endeavours are impressive and numerous. Her accomplishments to date are
admirable, yet she has just begun to take the world by storm! In addition to being energetic,
determined and capable, she is mature and kind. She is compassionate and carries a keen
understanding of the importance of balancing her pursuit of professional success with giving
back to her community and using her platform to lift and empower others, especially women and
minorities.
Dora is intelligent and professionally accomplished. She graduated from the University of
Toronto, Trinity College with high distinctions earning a B.A. in Criminology and Classical
Studies. She then went on to earn her Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from the University of
Ottawa. While completing her degrees, Dora received several scholarships & awards for
exceptional academics and outstanding community involvement. Notably: the 2017 Justice
Andromache Karakatsanis Student Scholarship; the Kiwanis Club of Toronto Foundation
Scholarship (for 4 consecutive years); the University of Toronto’s President's Entrance Award;
the Queen Elizabeth Aiming for the Top Scholarship (for 4 consecutive years).
Dora also made a name for herself in law school by competing in national and international
mooting competitions, including the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot –
considered the “Rolls Royce” of legal competitions – in 2017 and placing first in Vienna ahead
of 2,000 students. Dora went on to compete in other international legal competitions and
continues to be involved with the University of Ottawa's Mooting Department as a coach. With
her assistance, Dora’s team placed in the Top 16 in the world in 2018. Dora is often invited to
judge competitions at law schools throughout Canada.
Dora is a strong proponent of mentorship and women’s rights. In law school, she was involved
with the Women's Legal Mentorship Program as a mentor to younger female law students and
participated in the #LawNeedsFeminismBecause Campaign to raise awareness about the
issues female lawyers continue to face. Dora also mentors high school students, as well as
people looking to enter broadcasting and become radio personalities like her. Dora has also had
her academic works published. She co-authored, “Trade and Gender: Exploring International
Practices that Promote Women’s Economic Empowerment,” which was published by the
International Trade Centre in Geneva. In 2018, she presented her findings at the annual
Canadian Council in International Law Conference (CCIL).
Creative, passionate and multidimensional, Dora is also the creator and host of the very popular
“Doralicious Show”. The show has aired on Agape Greek Radio in Toronto, Ottawa and online
since 2013.This past November, Dora won Canadian Ethnic Media Association's 2019 Best
Podcast Award for her story on "Ashley: Being Greek & Transgendered". The interview explored
the struggles Ashley faced growing up transgendered in a traditional Greek household in
Canada. Dora often uses her show as a platform to raise awareness about various social
causes and give a voice to people who otherwise might not have one. She also uses the
connections she makes in the entertainment industry to support various charities in Toronto. For
example, Dora has brought Giannis Ploutarxos and Giorgos Sabanis to visit and perform at
Toronto’s Hellenic Home for the Aged, where Dora volunteers.
Dora is a trailblazer who often lends her creative energy to furthering worthwhile causes. A case
in point, last November, Dora spearheaded and chaired the hugely successful Agape Greek
Radio Music and Fashion Show raising funds for the Greek Community of Toronto's Paideia
(Education Department) and W.I.N. Hellas, a Greek-based charity aimed at raising awareness
for women's abuse in Greece. The sold-out event had more than 1000 people in attendance.
Dora also used the Music & Fashion Show as a vehicle to promote local Greek-Canadian artists
to showcase their music and bring together a community of 100+ models of Greek descent from
2 to 66 years old. 2020 is going to be a busy year for Dora, in addition to running the 2020
Music and Fashion Show, she will also be helping to launch the first Greek International Film
Festival Toronto in September.
Dora is an ambassador for the Hellenic Heritage Foundation, a Canadian charity devoted to
promoting Hellenic language, education and culture within Canada. Dora sits on HHF’s PR,
Next Generation, and Gala Committees. Dora has been vital in modernizing the HHF through
social media, attracting young leaders, and engaging Greek Canadians to be involved. She
hosts the quarterly video newsletter for the Foundation updating its members and donors on the
HHF's efforts, fundraisers, and upcoming events.
Dora is actively involved with various legal organizations, including Young Women at Law.
Dora also helps organize Chairman's Brands' Annual Charity Golf Tournament that raises funds
for local causes such as Sick Kids Hospital Toronto and the Make a Wish Foundation, Canada.
She also volunteers her time to promote and support numerous other events and galas raising
funds and awareness for various philanthropic causes.
I hope that you recognize Dora's pathos, advocacy, and commitment to the Greek-Canadian
community. As a past recipient, I could not think of anyone more deserving of this Award.
