Bobby Heslop Episode
In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Bobby Heslop. Bobby is known for her beautiful paintings of women with bold, free flowing brushstrokes, colour and oodles of passion. Her sensual art is instinctive. She creates without judgement of the process or her subject, trusting that “everything is happening perfectly”. Her aim is to almost get out of the way so that the Painting can bring itself into being. She tries not to plan or overthink an artwork. Less is more. Sometimes she puts her colourful oils or acrylics aside and works with Indian ink on large white canvases to allow for purer expression and a play between negative and positive space. At the heart of her work is a love for the female form, for women and a desire for their authentic self to emerge and dance over the canvas. In this episode we discuss the female form, art, painting, being an artist inspiration, body image and self love, sensuality, optimism and motivation and the process of creating.

Body image, which is such an important topical subject, has played a strong role in her artistic journey. Bobby wants each woman to see herself as she sees them, with their beautiful unique bodies; whether it be girls who have ‘perfect’ bodies and faces but can’t see it or women who hate some part of their body or how it is ageing. Of course she also loves to paint women who are fully aware of their beauty, passion and power!

Bobby was born in sunny Cape Town, SA, has lived in New Zealand, Japan and Italy. She is now based in the beautiful Lake District of England with her husband and two sons, where they have a family business. She has exhibited her work in Italy and the UK, and has collectors in Europe, Australia and the US.
