She specializes in Addiction and Mental Health. Under this umbrella, she works with people around such topics (but not limited to) substance use, relationships, problematic behaviors, food, enabling, codependency, trauma, phobias, stress, anxiety, depression, and grieving.
Kaylie is also a Basic ART Certified psychologist. Accelerated resolution therapy (ART) is an evidenced based form of psychotherapy that utilizes back and forth eye movements. It is not the same as EMDR, however they both use eye movements. A goal of ART is that in experiencing the therapy, you may find that you connect pieces of information that are already stored in your memory to help you resolve your issues. The brain, while focused on a problem and concurrently using eye movements, makes new connections with a person’s strengths and problem-solving abilities. ART works to reprogram the way which distressing images and memories are stored in the brain so they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions.
Kaylie also is a Clinically Certified Hypnotherapist and uses this tool as a complement to her practice. Hypnotherapy is a state of calm relaxation where suggestions can be given to, and accepted by, the subconscious or unconscious mind. It can be used for a variety of specific conditions, including Addiction, Mental Health, and Chronic Pain, as well as general relaxation and dealing with stress or anxiety.
Kaylie provides workshops and seminars on various topics. Most recently, she has been requested to speak about self-empowerment for women, and on the topic of codependency and boundaries. She has also been invited to deliver seminars to companies in corporate Calgary and the safety-sensitive industries. Kaylie has been requested to speak at local and provincial conferences. She currently has been offering online workshops.
Kaylie has always found herself in that supportive role. Growing up, friends would call her a good listener with great insight. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a psychologist and her vision never shifted. Kaylie is filled with gratitude that she can call her passion her career. Kaylie is a mom to two amazing girls who are 3 and 8. When coming off of her first maternity leave, Kaylie recognized she wanted to strive for work-life balance. This is part of what propelled her into becoming an entrepreneur. She took that leap of faith (albeit fearful at times) and began investing into herself and her brand – YYC Psychology. The last 7 years have been so rewarding on many levels. She can call herself a mom first, while still maintaining her career. It has been a learning curve filled with lots of fluidity as life has evolved with her family.
